This is the island where white sandy crystals make up the red carpet leading into sandcastle after sandcastle. Marco Island, is like a royal jewel to Floridians who escape to this destination for a pure relaxing vacation. About 20 minutes South of Naples via US Highway 41 and State Highway 951/92, Marco Island, Florida is the northernmost of Florida's "Ten Thousand Islands".
Sitting amidst a subtropical climate zone with a distinct wet and dry season, most of the rain occurs between June and October. However, when there's no rain in the forecast, Marco Island is great for sailing, parasailing and giant paddle floats. Out of the water, the most popular sports are tennis and golf. Besides sports, wildlife watching is exceptional on Marco Island. Almost 200 varieties of birds have been observed there including white and brown pelicans, Louisiana herons, and the American Bald Eagle. It's not uncommon to steal a glimpse of an alligator or a West Indian Manatee. Throw in a canoe trip and a guided boat tour and Marco Island is the ultimate island getaway package.
